Our train rides begin at the River Fox Train station, located on the Sacramento River. Our roundtrip excursions travel along a 10-mile stretch of track through Yolo’s countryside.

TRAIN HISTORY
Originally built in 1911 by Northern Electric Co., the 14-mile track transported passengers in the Sacramento area. Electric passenger travel came to an end in 1941, but the line remained active with diesel freight, creating a link between the fertile farmlands of the Sacramento Valley and the rest of California.
In 2003, Sierra Railroad merged with the West Sacramento – Woodland line, continuing freight and reviving passenger excursion trains under the name Sacramento River Train. Today, we are known as the River Fox Train, the sister train to our world-famous Skunk Train built in 1885. We hope you enjoy taking part in such a rich history.

ARE THE RIDES ROUND-TRIP?
Yes! All of our excursions start and end at the River Fox Train Station.
WHERE ARE MY TICKETS?
The River Fox Train is a ticket-free operation. To check-in for your event, simply give the name on your reservation to the ticket booth attendant.
CAN I CANCEL OR RESCHEDULE MY TRIP?
Tickets and fees are nonrefundable. You may call to reschedule or receive a voucher for your trip up to 72-hours prior to departure. Please contact the reservation team at (800) 866-1690 or by email at info@sierrarailroad.com
WHAT HAPPENS IF MY DATE IS CANCELLED?
Occasionally, due to circumstances beyond our control, we may be forced to cancel an event date. If this happens, we will contact you to extend our apologies and make alternative arrangements. First, we’ll try to get you into the same experience on another trip date. If your schedule cannot accommodate another trip date, we will refund you your ticket purchase price.
IS THE RIVER FOX TRAIN WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE?
Is the River Fox Train wheelchair accessible? Unfortunately, due to the historical nature of the train cars, the train is not wheelchair accessible. We are always happy to accommodate for disabilities in any way we can, however physical restrictions such as narrow corridors, steps, and uneven platforms may not allow for full access. Please contact the reservation team 1-800-866-1690 for any additional questions or to schedule an accessibility tour.
ARE THERE RESTROOMS AVAILABLE ON THE RIVER FOX TRAIN?
Yes! The River Fox Train has several restrooms available onboard.
CAN I BRING OUTSIDE FOOD OR DRINKS ONTO THE TRAIN?
No, in keeping with health and safety regulations, we cannot allow outside food or drink on the train. We always have alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and snacks available at our onboard Concession Car. Select excursions offer pre-sale meal selections or onsite purchase options.
IS THE RIVER FOX TRAIN DOG-FRIENDLY?
We allow dogs on select excursions. Dog tickets are available on the online booking page.
ARE DISCOUNTS AVAILABLE FOR LARGE GROUPS?
Yes! Groups of 20 or more are eligible for a 20% discount, if booked under the same reservation. Please contact our reservations team at 1-800-866-1690 to inquire about group rates.
CAN I HOST A BIRTHDAY PARTY ON THE TRAIN?
Yes! We love to have folks celebrate onboard. Please contact the Events team at 916-846-3109 to seek availability.
CAN I RENT OUT A WHOLE CAR ON AN EXISTING EXCURSION?
Absolutely! Large parties can upgrade to a private car. Please contact the Events team at 916-846-3109 to seek availability.

IS THE RIVER FOX TRAIN AFFILIATED WITH THE RAILROAD MUSEUM?
The River Fox Train is a family-owned and operated business that is not affiliated with the California State Railroad Museum. If you want to learn about trains and the history of California’s railroads, the California State Railroad Museum is the place to go. If you’re looking for a unique venue for a variety of memorable experiences, look no further than the River Fox Train!
DOES THE RIVER FOX TRAIN RUN ANY TRIPS USING STEAM-POWERED ENGINES?
No. All of our trains have diesel-powered locomotives. If you want to see vintage trains in action, consider making a weekend trip to our sister railroad in Mendocino County, the Skunk Train.
HOW MANY GUESTS CAN THE RIVER FOX TRAIN ACCOMMODATE?
The train has a maximum capacity of 300 guests. The maximum capacity may vary based on the experience.
IS SMOKING ALLOWED ON THE RIVER FOX TRAIN?
No. Federal regulations and regional fire codes strictly prohibit smoking, even in the outdoor cars.
