Train History

Originally built in 1911 by Northern Electric Co., the 14-mile track transported passengers in the Sacramento area. Electric passenger travel came to an end in 1941, but the line remained active with diesel freight, creating a link between the fertile farmlands of the Sacramento Valley and the rest of California

In 2003, Sierra Railroad Company merged with the Yolo Short Line Railroad Company, continuing freight and reviving passenger excursion trains under the name Sacramento River Train. Today, we are known as the River Fox Train, the sister train to our world-famous Skunk Train built in 1885 and our Ventura-county-based Sunburst. We hope you enjoy taking part in such a rich history.
