Train details

Our train travels roughly 28 miles along the picturesque Old Garden Highway beside the river from West Sacramento to Woodland at a leisurely 10 to 15 miles per hour. We specialize in good times and unique experiences. From our exclusive railbikes and murder mystery dinners, to our beer and wine trains and Holiday events for kids, we truly have something for everyone.

Train history

Originally built in 1911 by Northern Electric Co., the 14-mile track transported passengers between Woodland and West Sacramento. At its peak, the Woodland Branch offered eight round trip rides per day. Electric passenger travel came to an end in 1941, but the line remained active with diesel freight, creating a link between the fertile farmlands of the Sacramento Valley and the rest of California.

In 2003, Sierra Railroad merged with the West Sacramento – Woodland line, continuing freight and reviving passenger excursion trains under the name Sacramento RiverTrain. Today, we are known as the River Fox Train, the sister train to our world-famous Skunk Train built in 1885. We hope you enjoy taking part in such a rich history.
